On Wednesday I had a Canary visit my neighbour's tree. I heard it as I
returned from an outside event. Chirping and I saw it briefly fly from one
branch to another. Mostly untidy yellow but not all yellow. Very hard to see
in the tree and I went to get my binoculars. Just could not find it again. A
Pied Currawong flew into the tree and sat there for about 10 minutes and
gave an impression it was also looking for what was making the sound. I did
not see the canary again, although it kept chirping a few times a minute. I
went inside for lunch, an hour later the canary was still there but the
Currawong had gone (temporarily of course).......
Today and once last week a Spotted Turtle-Dove here. I saw a pair of them at
the top of Learmonth drive in Kambah on I think 25 December. A Red
Wattlebird took exception to it cooing from the power line and chased it
off.
