Hi Susanne,

After spending about 1/3 of my working career with CSIRO Wildlife spotlighting in the forests of eastern Australia, I can confirm that your beastie is indeed a Greater Glider and typical in its colouration of the majority of the animals I have seen. Yellow-bellied Gliders are much browner and dirty yellow where this one is white. If you are a regular visitor to Depot Beach you will have almost certainly, if they are there, heard Yellow-bellied Gliders. Their call s something like a maniacal cackle – Greater Gliders are almost silent.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi

No bird, but not too sure about this one:

I reckon it's a Greater Glider, but it seems to lack the fluffy ears.

It was on the grass outside our hut at Depot Beach last night. Seemed to be bigger than a normal size house cat and had a tail the length of my arm (60 - 70 cm) or 1.5 times its body size.

The head seemed too small for the body size. It wasn't too fazed by us, but still decided to slowly go up a tree.

Anyone here who could give me a definite ID please?

Sorry about the blurry photo. This was taken with a phone camera in torch light.

Thanks,

Susanne
