It is a stinkhorn fungus, I think Aseroe rubra.

It erupted out of the mulch underneath the plum tree this morning . It is pink to red with an open mouth that that seems to be approx. 6 cm deep 6-7 cm round.  It is like a succulent with a little brown ooze on the outer leaves ( for want of better word ) and although it was attracting blowies by the dozen I could not detect an odour.

By this afternoon all the succulence had gone and the mouth opening a lot wider.
