On further thoughts overnight the initial duck suggestion might have sent us down the wrong size  track so it could be a snipe.  A few of those around too.

It looks a bit like some kind of mallard hybrid but I haven't noticed one on any recent visit.  On the other hand there are a few juvenile wood duck around.  These have eyebrows and unlike the adults are quite bland in front  -  something a bit older than the below.  The particular colour shown doesn't really match anything I can think of

indeed a poor photo taken from a wetlands birdhide across  Kellys to the far bank, about 200 metres with basic digital camera. unducklike in solitary position in long grass, please tell me if I have found something more unusual
