About this and connectedness of nest sites to people. Surely there is the obvious point that they are not easy to find. The chances of finding nests increases greatly with proximity to the observer and we communicate these to each other. I have seen several other nests far away from people. e.g. many years ago I canoed out to one of Hattah Lakes and found a nest. We found one on last Sunday's COG outing. I doubt that apart from our random wandering, they would have seen people there.
 
So I sure hope the logical bias that nests close to people traffic are more likely to be found by interested people is included in this.
 
I do see an obvious advantage of being near lights that make night time food gathering easy.
