There will be recurrent references in the archives to this tagging that was
performed for a research project some years ago. The question will be
raised why the tags were not removed, one reason being, as I recall, that
retrapping would cause unnecessary distress - even if all birds could be
retrapped. The question remains whether this form of marking was the most
appropriate, a question now given additional point by the experience of this
individual - something to be considered in the ethical clearance process
(whatever it's called now).

I have just received a Galah into care that was found in Ainslie this
morning . It was caught with wire entangled through its wing that was in
turn entangled in two ID Tags that were wired to the wing , both discs say
XA , they are the size of 20cent pieces and the leg band number is
200-17296.
Does anyone know how I can find out the who might be running this sort of
experiment ?
The bird will have to be euthanised it will never fly again.
