Following my comment on Saturday last (1/8) that the local Frogmouths appear to have started nesting 3+weeks earlier than in other years, more twigs have been aaded to the nest each night. After using the same day-roost site every day that I have been home since mid-April, they have also shifted their roost about 200m North to a site never before used pre-breeding, but that may be totally unrelated to the nest building.
This morning while in the Upper El Rancho area of Carwoola I heard clearly, and several times, the call of a Pallid Cuckoo. It was coming from a bit to the North of our property at about 820m AMSL. I think the call could be translated as "Why did I get fooled by the warm weather last week?"
