Hi Feathered Folk

I'm quite happy with the iPad version and I think one has the facility to provide better photographs; e.g. from the iOS app page:

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/aust.-bird-guide/id665763851

"Also, note that all users of this app are welcome to contribute to the quality of the app. If you have photos or information on species that would improve the usefulness of this app. please consider adding it via the Gaia Guide website."

I've taken about 50 odd (or not so odd?) different species since late November (as an idle time hobby - usually while waiting on my kids! 8-) ) so I might think some of those photos might be worth submitting to the Gaia Guide website. I'm quite a bit happier supporting Creative Commons or "Open Source" type apps and databases - must be my scientist character flaw (though these days especially, "A Stranger in a Strange Land").

Adios
Harold

Another Australian bird guide app is the Australian Bird Guide, by Galexy P/L. It is a fairly basic guide, with photographic illustrations. It, unfortunately, does not cover all Aus species, due to availability of photographs, but it does cover 754 species. It would be pretty good for a young birder. One of the plusses  is that it is free.

The app is available in iOS and Android. The Android app is available from http://www.gaiaguide.info/MobileApps.html and the iOS from Apple's app store.
