As a slightly more local touch than Norfolk Island, Gidleigh Station, SE of Bungendore is named after Phillip Gidley King, being set up by his son. So he might well have seen King-parrots locally. I have wondered for some time about the spelling shift and it seems to be sort of explained in this genealogical webpage.
