When I was at the Jewish Centre in Forrest this afternoon, some children reported that a bird had crashed into the plate glass window and was injured.
I went to inspect. The first thing I saw were a Pied Currawong and a Noisy Miner sitting side by side on a nearby railing looking distinctly malevolent.
Then I went to look at the injured bird. It was juvenile Fantail Cuckoo. As I approached it with a towel to pick it up, it exploded into delayed activity and flew off – followed by the PC and NM.
It is unusual to see these birds in suburban areas away from bushland. It is also getting rather late to embark on their migration.
