This species is slowly increasing around Canberra and Queanbeyan. As I have reported in the past, I recorded a single Spotted Dove (COG Incidental Record Sheet) just prior to beginning a survey of the Large McKellar Pond on Friday 17th last week. It is about time the ACT Government took an active interest in removing another unwanted potential pest species.
If people are concerned with the build up of this bird and happen to find a nest with eggs, I am sure the Australian National Wildlife Collection held by CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences would be happy to take them, and for that matter any specimens of the bird.
