This month's walk is at Tuggeranong Pines, with an 8.30am start.
Tuggeranong Pines is on the Monaro Highway, at the Old Tuggeranong Road turnoff. This is between the Monaro Hwy intersections with Isabella Drive and Johnson Drive (about 1km from Johnson Dr, 3.2 km from Isabella Dr). There is a sign to Old Tuggeranong Rd , and there is a parking area immediately before the locked gate when you turn off the highway (next to the Paintball site, which, thankfully always seems deserted during the week). Please be careful turning off the highway.
Be sure to bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Michael Robbins will be leading the walk, which will take in, for those interested, a view of the old Tuggeranong railway siding. The surveyors of the ACT boundary were at this site 100 years ago, in December 1913, since the old railway is on the Territory boundary!
Two recces in the last couple of weeks have yielded lots of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos (including dependent young) and Rufous Whistlers, as well as a variety of other birds.
