COG & CIMAG members,
Many of you will have seen media reports on the above, and Martin
Butterfield’s message on the COG chatline earlier this week.
Following CIMAG’s June win of three awards and Overall ACT Winner,
President Bill Handke, his wife Jenny & I attended the annual National
Finals of Keep Australia Beautiful Sustainable Cities Awards at the Coogee Beach
Surf Life Saving Club, Coogee, WA last Monday. The local City of Cockburn was
Overall Winner in 2012.
CIMAG’s award for Environmental Innovation and Protection recognised CIMAG
members’ efforts in reducing the myna from the 3rd most common bird in Canberra
gardens in 2006 to 20th and bringing back small birds and rosellas to gardens
& nest-boxes.
It is notable that all other finalists were local governments who won KAB
awards for community action and partnerships, beach management, litter &
waste management, water, energy, heritage, culture and youth involvement. The
overall winner (and winner of three other awards) was the City of Marion, South
Australia.
Many thanks to COG & its members, who through various programs,
especially the Garden Bird Survey, the Annual Bird Report and assistance to
research projects have contributed greatly to CIMAG’s sucess.
Please note, CIMAG’s AGM is at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 26 November at Southern
Cross Club, Cnr Catchpole & Bowman Sts. All welcome.
Cheers,
Bruce Lindenmayer.
