My regular bike ride around Uriarra and the Cotter is usually quite
rewarding in bird terms. This morning’s ride yielded a single Superb
Parrot flying over Uriarra road a couple of kms west of Huntly Homestead, almost
exactly the same spot that I saw one last December. It is only rarely that
Superbs are seen south of the Molonglo but it looks like this area might be one
they like. Further on there was a single Pied Butcherbird between Uriarra
Homestead and Uriarra Village next to Brindabella road. This is the first
time I personally have seen this species in the ACT.
Other birds of interest were: WW Triller, plenty of Rufous Songlarks
and some Rufous Whistlers, an Olive Backed Oriole near Uriarra Homestead,
Dusky and White-browed Woodswallows and White Throated Gerrygone near Mt
Stromlo. All up some 23 species but no
raptors.
