Several years ago in California, at the Marina Del Rey, I was fortunate enough to have Ruddy Turnstones in one eye piece of my binoculars and Black Turnstones in the other!

I did comment to Steve that the last one I saw - probably not the same bird - was in July sitting on a groyne at Selsey Bill UK
