The Masked Lapwing pair that nests every year on the roundabout at the north end of Josephson St in Belconnen were shepherding either 2 or 3 very young fluffballs around the roundabout this afternoon. Doubtless the better informed will insist that this is within the breeding norms for that species in Canberra, but I'm pretty sure it's much earlier than previous years for that particular pair.
Also of note today, a B-s Kite hovering above Ginninderra Creek beside William Slim Drive near the Belconnen Soccer Club this morning, and again on the other side of W S Drive this afternoon. Presumably the same bird.
