Last week in the gardens I saw a young spinebill. It was still in its honey coloured juvenile plumage with just a hint of a couple of brown feathers appearing in the throat. That probably puts it at a couple of months old at most. Given the food resources in the gardens it might be possible for breeding to occur in any month of the year.
