I have the very vague memory of reading that magpies sometimes start building a nest, then moving it to a different location. So they would need some time before they are ready to use it for incubating eggs. 

I might also be very wrong.

There are some plum blossoms at Dickson wetland that came out 2 weeks earlier than last year.

twice this last week I have seen magpies apparently collecting nesting material.  Is this earlier than normal?
