Out
there again for a restorative stroll this afternoon from 3 pm till 4:50. This
time it was 2.2 km along the track from Kambah Pool (at
the 2nd red rocks gorge viewing platform) till I heard the
first lyrebird. That was when l turned around to go back, then on the way back I
heard lyrebirds along most of the way, this is likely to have been 2 or 3 birds.
I can only guess it was a matter of time of day (approaching sunset) as to why I
heard them on the way back and not the way out. Very few other birds noted in
that time.

I heard a Superb Lyrebird at Kambah Pool again,
at 4:30 today. This time almost from the main car park. As on all previous
times, it is far away, on the Bullen Range, on the other side of the Murrumbidge
River.

Most years I write a message to
this list about the closest place from Canberra to hear a Superb Lyrebird. Well
it is there again, or two this time. Directions are, take the walking track from
Kambah Pool towards Pine Island. Stop and listen where the big
powerlines cross overhead (about 20 minutes walk time from the carpark). The
birds can be heard singing from the opposite side of the river. I heard it
yesterday but not a week ago.
