Greetings, some of you may be interested in looking at this
and possibly putting in a letter to the Commonwealth Gov. re the protection of
the Superb Parrot breeding site on Throsby Ridge adjacent to Goorooyarroo NR.
The Exec summary is best place to start if you wish to look at this.
We were aware that in this document, the ACT
Government would draw the proposed urban line only 100 metres away from
Throsby Ridge's Superb Parrot nesting trees; however, most of the Throsby neck
should go into reserve. We will need to strongly press for a much
greater buffer and not housing abutting the nesting site. Common Mynas
will be a major possible threatening process if the urban boundary is so close,
at present they do not appear to have penetrated to the nesting area, only
to the edges of Horse Park Drive some 500-600 metres away.
There is a period now for submissions to be put in to 19
April, then the Commonwealth will review all the documentation/submissions and
make its decision. COG has already had a meeting with the Commonwealth
officials to put our views, and will be putting in a submission.
cheers
Jenny

Subject: Gungahlin SEA documents
Hi all Gungahlin SEA documents are here. http://www.economicdevelopment.act.gov.au/community_engagement/current_activities/gungahlin Consultation
closes 19 April. I have only looked at very briefly. Executive Summary - says
781 hectares will be protected. As predicted Throsby will be key. Says
750 residential blocks planned for Throsby for release in 2013-14. Says all
known superb parrot breeding locations will be protected. Except only 100 metres
from urban development and this buffer may also be part of the outer asset
zone. Suggests that research into superb parrot may be part of the
indirect offset package. I have put in request for multiple copies and large
maps. look forward to discussing this at workshop on
Thursday. Cheers Clare ___________________________ Clare Henderson
