At Mt. Stromlo telescopes site 09:30 today, a flock of 20-plus Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes flying from south to north-east.

In the compost bin yesterday I saw large beetles which, at first glance, suggested Christmas Beetles albeit out of season. They seemed slightly larger than Christmas Beetles, and the other noticeable feature was “feathered” antennae a la a species of moth. When they took off they flew very strongly and almost vertically, disappearing towards the canopy of a large eucalyptus in a neighbouring yard. We have Hagnay & Zborowski  Guide to the beetles of Australia but no joy there. Can any coleopterists out there make a suggestion as to what they are?
