With our bedroom window open overnight during the recent hot weather, I
have twice heard, fairly close by, what sounds like the call of an
Australian Owlet-nightjar in the small hours, the most recent calls
being about three o'clock this morning. A chirring descending call
lasting a second or so, and repeated a couple of times.
