Hi
Kym,
Yes you are
right. cb1 is a Black Falcon. cb2 is a Brown Falcon. Note the characteristic
difference between the two in the pale markings on the face, cb1 the bird is
perched low on short legs, Brown Falcon sit much higher, the very tapered body
(broad across wrists to narrow around hips) and neat tight plumage, Brown Falcon
is rounder and untidy looking, wing tips and tail both long and fully dark.
cb2 even
though the under body is dark, the main wing and tail feathers are mostly pale
with dark bars right to the edge, this is diagnostic of Brown Falcons, whereas
in the Black Falcon these feathers are all dark or even the palest of them is
much darker than this. The wings are less pointed than in a Black
Falcon.
I wonder
where you found this Black Falcon. The photo is exactly like the first one I
ever saw (in 1973).
