Roger’s shot is clearly of a young bird.  Compare the adult at the same spot on 30/12.  This suggests that the family reported by Steve Wallace a few weeks ago is at least partly surviving in the area.  Apparently no other young have been sighted, but they are probably around.  The extent of the area being used is a matter for speculation.  The 30/12 adult emerged from the well-known typha patch just in front of Bittern, then moved rapidly in the direction of the next (Ardea) hide
