The Page koels have done it again. There was a seemingly healthy though somewhat nervous koel chick bleating in a dense melaleuca in Braine St, near the eastern junction with Hannaford St, a few minutes ago. And yes the poor unfortunate fosters were again Red Wattlebirds. Hopeless position for photography. I’ll advise the keen photographers when and if a better photographic opportunity arises, if this young one stays around like last year’s. I suspect it is fairly recently out of the nest. And to think the dog and I pounded the suburb’s pavements to the north for an hour this morning, looking for – or rather listening for – a chick and one was waiting almost on my doorstep! b
