The Swathe.  Well, it was only a matter of time.  This informative series, examples of which  will be dotted here and there in the archive, has covered all the well-known birdy spots around Canberra, and this late addition revisits the wetlands to mark a new mini-venue created from whole cloth, so to speak.  Long-time Kellys frequenters will recall the open marshy spaces around the islands where one could put in a couple of hours in a hide and have a fair proportion of the local waterbirds pass by.  Those days have gone with the invasive Typha but the recent application of the machete by Michael and assistants is a token restoration of the viewing possibilities.  This peaceful (but low-resolution) scene does draw on the imagination slightly, but only, I suggest, by compressing an hour or two’s observing into a single moment.  In this version, Santa Claus has been omitted.
