The survey was carried out on 5 Dec. on a quite cool and
at times rather windy morning. A total of 33 species were recorded inside sites
(iS) and a further 12 species outside sites (oS). Highlights included: being
swooped by 2 female Brown Goshawks without that they gave their alarm
calls, hence the surprise effect was greater; notably Mistletoebirds 3x (iS)
although I failed to notice any fruit on mistletoes; 2x Dollarbird (iS);
5x male White-winged Triller (both iS, oS); only 1x (iS) Dusky Woodswallow,
Horsefield's Bronze Cuckoo, Speckled Warbler; 1 ad Pallid Cuckoo (oS), probably
passing through. L. Kookaburra, Rufous Whistler and Weebill 1x each with
dependent young. The pair of Long-billed Corellas is still present.
The weediness of the entire area is of great concern
(notably St John's Wort, several species of thistles, at some spots Serrated
Tussock, and many other weed species). This must increasingly impact on quite a
number of bird species.
