Thanks to all who responded. We suffer a great deal of frustration
trying to identify the sbb who usually inhabit the upper reaches of
our eucalypts. This one was not that much above head height and I saw
it clearly in profile and that ruled out finches and pardalotes. It
looked grey and I could not make out any markings (naked eye only).
I think it was the brown thornbill - I was surprised how bright
red-orange that flash was on the rump. Of course it is difficult to
capture that in photos and it is difficult to find a feature - even
with google- that is not part of its name.
