Greetings. Does anyone know about exotic parrots that
aviculturalists keep?
Someone has handed in to Wildcare Queanbeyan what apparently is an
exotic parrot that was picked up in bushland near Reedy Creek. It
has a metal band on its leg.
The bird is described as follows:
- approximately 18 inches/50 cm from bill to tail tip
- a very long tail
- prominent white eye ring
- red at the base of the bill
- overall olive green
- the underwing flight feathers are aqua in colour
- the head is a darker olive green than the rest of the body
- the bill is black
- the upper mandible substantially overlaps the lower mandible
I have looked at the picture in Forshaw's 'Parrots of the
world' but cannot identify it there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks - David
