Just back from a few days camping at my banding site just the other side of Wee
Jasper (about a few hundred metres beyond the edge of the AoI).

Most of the Spring migrants were back in numbers, including White-throated
Gerygone, Noisy Friarbird, Olive-backed Oriole, Sacred Kingfisher, Fan-tailed
Cuckoo, Shining and Horsfield's Bronze-cuckoo, Rufous Whistler, and Leaden
Flycatcher.

The other birding highlight was being serenaded each evening on dusk by the
resident White-throated Nightjar (in the right direction, but not far enough
away to be in the AoI). This was the only night bird calling, unless you count
the Australian Owlet-nightjar that would call in the middle of each afternoon
but not at night.

Breeding included Australian Magpie young being fed, nest-building (almost
complete, but not sitting) by White-winged Choughs and copulating Gang-gang
Cockatoos.

Had occasion to drive to Tumut and back, and about halfway back (about 30km
from Wee Jasper), had a Wonga Pigeon walk across the road in front of me.

On the non-birding front, mammals included a Swamp Wallaby with a large joey in
the pouch (and other Swamp Wallabies), several Eastern Grey Kangaroos, a
Platypus in Wee Jasper creek, unidentified microbats, one Echidna on the drive
back from Tumut and several road kill wombats in various stages of
decomposition between Tumut and Wee Jasper. Reptiles included a Lace Monitor
at the site, a couple of live Eastern Brown Snakes on the road and a single
dead Red-bellied Black Snake, and a Shingleback Skink on the drive back to
Canberra.
