Last Thursday I varied my wetlands program by motoring to the otherwise slightly boring hamlet of Aireys Inlet to renew my acquaintance with the Rufous Bristlebird. This, in the jargon of the “Finding Birds at …” disciple, is a Great Ocean Road “specialty”, a curious word that rather suggests you might expect one to be served up charcoal-grilled with a truffle garnish, feijoa chutney and a rocket salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar at a Lorne trattoria. Anyway, it’s one species you are unlikely to come across in a Canberra Nature Park. That must end this little travelogue while I take a scout around closer to home for a day or two, while Spring lasts. However, I do have a couple of further VIctorian items to report which I might attend to on my return to Canberra.
