As foreshadowed, below is the result of my excursion this morning.  Here our Superb Parrot has perched, perhaps just a little improbably, on one of the old cannon that ornament the Mount Pleasant memorial overlooking central Canberra.  The text, I concede, can be improved on.  Don’t know where it came from, just kind of entered my head.  My purpose in being at that site was to see if any potentially breeding Little Eagles were in the air around about.  The result in that respect was negative, but I have taken the liberty of including examples of the pair (representing 2 colour morphs) that have nested in the general area in recent years.

What your developer could do, Julian, is take his or her portable Superb Parrot and put him on any kind of perch at all.  This sort of thing is very subjective, and Jokerperson text , for example, is not to everyone’s taste.  Personally I find extended use of one design a little on the boring side, and I would ask the developer, while on the job,  to run off a dozen or so variations that could be deployed sequentially over a period.  Another issue is whether the design should include something like a gum tree that could be found anywhere, or something more suggestive of Canberra.  While I am out today I shall see what I can find.

Thanks to all for superb Superb Parrot photos.  I realise that it’s quite tricky getting the aspect, pose and branch right for the context, so not sure if we’re there yet.  I’ll pass those I’ve received on to the developer, but if anyone has any more please send them too.

Does anyone have, or is able to take, a photo of a male Superb Parrot perched (or possibly in flight) with no obscuring branches or leaves other than the one perched on?

We need a photo for the top banner of the new website and it is proving difficult to find one suitable.  The contractor’s best effort at the moment is below, using a female parrot that doesn’t have the crowd appeal of a male, and doesn’t match in colour the gold text (as a male would).

The concept is as shown – a bird perched notionally in the tree behind it – so we’d need a bit of perch branch visible and an otherwise unobstructed bird, not to mention aesthetic beauty and technical excellence.

If anyone has a suitable photo this is a chance for great web fame.  It’s needed in the next week or 10 days, so if you do have something that might be suitable please send it to me and I’ll pass it to our website developer.

Thanks

Julian
