I think the Brown Treecreeper one works pretty well although there is too much junk in the background.  I would get rid of all the roads, Lakes and names of things.  (In the Magpie examples it is all illegible anyway.)  The outline of the ACT and the grid gives enough navigational information to work out the broad area.

Of the two Magpie examples I prefer the second one as a graphic presentation.
