Re:  the bridge over the drain has been demolished
I think that the "bridge" (a pile of dirt with pipes through it) was probably just a temporary structure to assist with construction of the nearby roads and other infrastructure. Last time I went over it it was already looking very eroded. It is possible to park on side streets off David Walsh Ave, although they are rather narrow. Perhaps some kind of more suitable parking will be available when the large dump of construction rubbish and materials is cleaned up.

The dam wall of the Large Dam looks like it has been rebuilt, although not all the work has been completed yet. It should start filling up now with more rain. Looking at the height of the newly installed outlet pipes, I would guess that that the water level is only being raised by about 1.5m, but that will probably flood much of the area covered by the dead trees.

I spent an hour plus in the area and dipped on Lewins Rail but did see 2 Buff-banded Rails to the East of the major footbridge.  A snap of one them, a screen shot of the area and some other witter is at  http://franmart.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/a-henny-expedition-to-forde.html

I was also interested to note driving back along Horse Park Drive that the bridge over the drain has been demolished.  Rather a nuisance for getting access to the Big Dam in Mulligans Flat.  Perhaps someone from CNP would care to explain why this has been done.

While looking for the Lewin’s Rail at Forde we found a Buff Banded Rail. It was in the spot west of the footbridge, first seen on the path and then in the lomandra near the waters edge. It had a large white eyebrow and buff band on the breast, so an adult Buff Banded. We also thought we heard another one up stream, but it may have been the same bird. No sign of the Lewin’s unfortunately.
