Hi Margaret,

Probably a juvenile that hatched towards the end of summer.  I think, but am not sure, that they have adult colouring at about 6 months.  And yes, it would be self feeding.

cheers,
Marg

Seen this morning an eastern rosella adult feeding a dependent young on my back lawn.  I believe they are the same pair that I have also observed in the bird feeder where the young one appeared to be able to feed itself.  Raises the question, how old would this young one be?  Its plumage is bit dull in colour with a slightly moth-eaten appearance.
