Subject: [canberrabirds] bird call ID if possible
Yesterday while walking on Farrer Ridge down in the South-east corner, I heard a trilling call. A white winged triller had been seen there last year, and I made the assumption that it had returned. However, last night I played some bird calls and it was definitely not a WWT. The call was most like that of a fantailed cuckoo, but it was a bit lighter and not persistent like a FTC. It was a bit like a cross between a white-throated gerygone and a fantailed cuckoo. I didn’t see the bird, but it came from the foliage of a eucalypt in which a mixed feeding flock of weebills and yellow-rumped thornbills were also present. It was not an eastern spinebill.
Grateful for any suggestions. I have already suggested to myself that I carry the bird calls with me next time.
