I'm pleased that the initial RTBC continues to persist in the Gardens, and it is now a pair! Previously I had only ever seen RBTCs in mountain forests (Tidbinbilla, Warks Road, Monga NR &c) and had assumed they had poor dispersal abilities. Obviously these ANBG birds have found a little patch of ideal (albeit artifical) habitat, but it must be least 50kms as the Treecreeper flies to the nearest suitable habitat to the Gardens, so their dispersal abilities are obviously not that bad. The other interesting thing is that after I and others first saw the male, he was joined by a female. Presumably she was there all along, but still, a pair dispersing together? Isn't that unusual? Has anyone else ever seen a RBTC away from its preferred habitat?
