On a quick walk round the
Lindsay Pryor
Arboretum this superb afternoon (few birds- 2 Common Bronzewing,
small flock Red
Browed Finches),
we saw that a significant round of long overdue pruning and weed
removal was underway (almost completed?).
About 6 Australian Conservation
Volunteers were on the last day of a week of clearing woody
weeds along the
lake shoreline…
(opposite where they did similar work last year on the
Yarralumla Golf Course shoreline of Lake BG).
Some arborists were also
busy with chain
saws pruning the oak trees, and a mulcher was following up the
ACV’s work.
Later,
when
checking the AVC website for details of the work (http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/project/info?projectId=48401)
I noticed that the AVC have also scheduled work over the next few
weeks at the
following sites that might be of interest to some COG members:
Jerrabomberra Wetlands (11-15 June, assisting Rangers tree/shrub
planting: http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/project/info?projectId=47659),
Tidbindbilla (18-22 June - track maintenance with Rangers- http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/project/info?projectId=47962),
Gungahlin Ponds (18-22 June : restoring grasslands: http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/project/info?projectId=48305
Tidbinbilla (25-29 June:
Wildlife enclosure
work: http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/project/info?projectId=47963
There may be others- the
website requires
some navigational skill.
