Yes that is entirely typical. Did I ever mention on this line (I think I did) the mostly decomposed skeleton of a BsK that I found several years ago beside the JW hide adjacent to the river, it had an equally mostly decomposed skeleton of the back half of a mouse half way down its throat. They mostly eat their mouse head first.

At JWNR this morning I was discussing with the ranger what the hunting pair of BSKs were feeding on, only to come on the evidence a few minutes later.  The bird has both nictitating membranes fully closed for the swallow.
