The only thing or the closest thing to a count of these 2 species in Canberra is the GBS. Although that does not attempt to resolve a total figure, that could be done with some dubious number crunching. There are many assumptions that would need to be made to do that conversion, such as that these birds are evenly distributed in time and space, that the birds don't move from one site to another and that every GBS observer week records all the birds simultaneously present in their defined GBS area and stick to the same area of about the same size. None of these assumptions really hold.
 
Either way, it is clear that the populations of both species are clearly thriving and increasing. Although the biomass of them combined is well short of that of people.

3.45pm - around the National Library, Finance, rose gardens and up towards Parliament House yesterday, also feeding in grass, were countless numbers of S Crested Cockatoos.  I wondered if anyone has ever tried to count SC in Canberra?  I was surprised to see so many.
