Mary Durack’s book Kings in Grass Castles recounts the accidental death of the elder Michael Durack at ROSE Lagoon, Kipppilaw Station in August 1853.  Rose  was also the name used in an obituary dated 27 August in the Goulburn Herald.

Place name search at the Geoscience Australia web site ( http://www.ga.gov.au/place-name/) shows the name as Rose Lagoon. The only Rowes Lagoon that it knows about is in Queensland, between Rockhampton and Mackay.
