spelling of Gang-Gang

Working on frogs a few years back in Qld I had to write Fleay's Barred Frog Mixophyes fleayi as Fleay's barred frog because the Qld Wildlife Regs stated as such. Never mind that it was written as Fleay's Barred Frog practically everywhere else. It kinda irritated me at the time but now I see a variation in spelling with most wildlife names and the world keeps spinning. Provided the scientific name is correct I can't see much harm or confusion in an upper case here or a hyphen there. I don't think it bothers the wildlife if we spell their name wrong.
