This explains the surveyor's pegs along the track from Uriarra Rd that were making me nervous yesterday during a quick visit, as I was thinking what an interesting bird location the Bluett's bush patch had become. So the edge of Molonglo Stage 2 is already clearly marked…
FWIW I flushed three separate 'quail' on the north edge of the grassy clearing at ‘Z’ , but have absolutely no idea what they were. They each flew far, into treed areas, and the only one I saw at all seemed in the light to be quite plain in retreat i.e. not markedly patterned. They seemed bigger than button-quail but my record on the ID of quail-like birds is not good.
