orange crested white cockatoo

We often see fairly large flocks of cockatoos (occasionally with corellas) around Watson.  Yesterday my observant daughter noticed that one that looked a bit different.   This was photographed at Majura Primary School Sat morning 12 May, but we’d seen it (and two others) on Friday as well.

As well as the orange crest there is also an orange-ish wash around its face.  I’m guessing that this is an escapee that is either a Sulphur Crested/Major Mitchell hybrid or perhaps something from New Guinea or environs but I’d be interested to hear what other more knowledgeable birders think.

Kind regards

Murray Delahoy
