Re Noel’s BQ report, I followed in the footsteps of a few others and revisited the spot this morning. No BQs in sight but on the way back paused to exchange a few conversational squeaks with an MFF (Brown Thornbills, SFWs, Wb Scrubwrens, couple of shrike-thrush in loose attendance). After a bit a couple of the scrubwrens turned into hylacolas. This is a fairly close-in appearance for the species, almost in the suburbs given the sprawl of the embryonic Molonglo complex. I might mention that ‘Bluetts Pines’ is something of a misnomer for this area as that term was used for the the pine plantation bounded by Uriarra Rd and Coppins Xing Rd that is now gone. The site Noel refers to is further west and largely euc regrowth with a healthy native shrub layer. The hylacs were about 400m along the vehicle track running north from the gate on Uriarra Rd. There used to be some picnic tables among the pines around there, now gone also.
