Hello, An update on Lake Rd. Firstly, the road has been re-graded, so it is no longer full of potholes and bumps, and is suitable for non-4wd cars again. Hooray! The flooded paddock had 90+ Aust. Coots, approx. 30 Black Ducks and 1 Moorhen, as well as 2 Aust. Shelducks, 1 Musk Duck and 1 Little Pied Cormorant.
The usual suspects were present along the road (C. Rosellas, C. Pigeons, Galahs, Fairy Wrens, Tbs), with the exception of peewees. I was wondering where they might have gone, as Lake Rd is usually littered with them. There were also two families of Choughs, one of 9 birds, one of 6 (that I could see).
At the end of the road I stopped and had a look out on to the lake bed. 14 WF Herons feeding at the lake edge, 16 Silver Gulls flying around near the herons, 3 Black Swans out on the water, 11 Masked Lapwings, 5 Little Ravens and numerous Magpies on the pasture next to the lake edge, and small groups of unidentifiable ducks flying north.
The Kestrels and Brown Falcons that you often see perched on the power poles were absent, though there were 3 Wedgies flying around over the road. Erika
