Well sure some Black Swans are aggressive. I remember the male of the pair at the La Trobe Wildlife reserve in 1977-78 who was very much so. This article does though describe that this is a most unusual case. So it does give a a balance to a strange story. That the swan, knocked him out of his kayak and stopped him swimming to shore it appears, causing his death, is really quite extreme.
