Hi All
Wonderful program on Carnaby’s cockatoo on ABC 1 tonight – program site:
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/programs/onawingandaprayer.htm
- be viewable now on iview. Fantastic in-nesting hollow camera work, and
overall a fine film. Reminded me of the feeding noises by SCCs from our tall E
viminalis through many months over the summer – maybe they found a nesting hole
up there (??) (serious question – I had assumed they had nested on the O’Connor
Ridge some where, and just came down to our tree (a block back) to roost).
Also – we have had a pair of very noisy Gang Gangs inspecting nesting
possibilities etc in the E. Viminalis a couple of times in recent weeks (I
assume it’s the same pair). The hang around checking out the possibilities for
some time (maybe an hour or so), then fly off. We have had arborists put parrot
mesh over a couple of vulnerable forks (the galahs and GGs had been pecking away
at the live wood under the bark), and cut back a branch that provided a
convenient perch for pecking away at a small hollow in another vulnerable place.
We want to protect the life of the tree, but are keen to have nesting where it
is not damaging (luckily the magpies have moved to the tree, and the currawongs
seem to have gone).
cheers
Barbara
