Ah, the Canberra/Singapore axis. My first visit to the Jurong Bird Park was in 1971 when it was being constructed. No sign of it on an earlier visit in 1965. I don't have a bird list for Singapore - or for anywhere else really. Had them from time on bits of paper that I've lost. I do have the odd field guide with a few paltry ticks on the yellowing pages.

G'day again gents,
I don't think it is the Yellow-crested Cockatoo (aka Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo [Cacatua sulpherea]) as it usually has extensive amounts of yellow on the head, especially around the ears. I also think that it has a darker yellow crest but could be mistaken.
About an hour later after I was called to lunch ........
Having seen the replies from Geoffrey at al I still think it is a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo as it has NO yellow on the head. All illustrations I have looked at show the yellow.
For Ian's information my Singapore list is around 158 species seen and half a dozen heard. Interestingly I have not seen this cockatoo in Singapore but have seen a wide variety of other interesting "escapees" around the Jurong Bird Park.

Given some recent postings, I could suggest something like "one of the less commonly seen species " in O'Connor, but that would be unkind (and hence I'm NOT sending this to the list!). That aside I'd suggest Yellow-crested Cocky, which I understand has been introduced to Singapore.
Incidentally Con, about how many spp did you see there? You've both got me interested ....
cheers
Ian
