I had a good early morning start at Warks Road and New Chums Road. The avifauna was very active. Low cloud covered the mountain tops and fog carpeted the valley. There was no wind which was excellent for bird listening. Mosquitoes were very active.

What might be considered the usual suspects were there: Cicadabird (3 - including a male and female which might, if I were anthropomorphic, be described as playing chasey through the canopy). A male Satin Flycatcher ran through his verbal repertoire, did some tail quivering and displayed his rather minimalist crest. He could have taken sartorial notes from the male Gang Gang which was ih creakingly, while his mate admired him from an adjacent perch. I looked for a female Satin but none to be seen so she migh have been sitting.

Several Pilotbirds were singing sweetly, a single Red-browed Treecreeper (lifer) popped onto the ground on the track in front of me before climbing a nearby tree, Eastern Whipbirds cracked from several locations. Flame Robin, King Parrot, Grey Fantail, Grey Currawong were feeding dy, and a Yellow-faced Honeyeater was cf. Numerous parties of Grey Fantails, Brown Thornbills, Striated Thornbills, Superb Fairy-wrens and White-browed Scrubwrens were demonstrating that they had a fecund season.

All very peaceful, and the herds of big 4x4s, and skeins of trail bikes were only just migrating altitudinally into the mountains as I made my replete way home.

Starting place for the first walk was the intersection of Bendorah Dam Road and Warks Road. Starting point for the second walk was the junction of Warks Road and New Chums Road.
